WhatsApp Reportedly Testing Chat History Migration Between Android and iOS Devices
WhatsApp is currently testing a novel feature that allows users to transfer their chat history seamlessly between Android and iOS devices, as reported recently. Despite its prior stance against third-party apps facilitating such migrations, WhatsApp is now developing an official solution for its users. Another anticipated feature is one that would liberate users from the need to keep their phones connected to the Internet while using WhatsApp Web.
According to details from WABetaInfo, a platform specializing in testing WhatsApp features and disseminating related information, the chat history migration feature is expected to be included in a forthcoming update. Although the exact release date remains unknown, a screenshot from WhatsApp for iOS reveals a prompt urging users to update the app to its latest version to enable chat history migration to another device running WhatsApp on Android. The feature is reported to be bidirectional, allowing users to transfer chat history between both Android and iOS platforms.
In order to link a device with a different operating system, the WhatsApp user will need to ensure that the app is updated to the latest version available on the App Store or TestFlight. This precaution is intended to prevent compatibility errors when connecting with the Android version.
The chat history migration feature is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance multi-device functionalities. WABetaInfo had previously reported on the development of a feature enabling the synchronization of chat history across various platforms.
Furthermore, recent beta screenshots shared by WABetaInfo suggest that WhatsApp Web users might soon enjoy the freedom of using the application without the necessity of keeping their phones connected to the Internet. This feature, initially observed on Android, is reportedly in development for iOS as well.
